Training of Trainers (ToT) Course for Georgia and Armenia Emergency Medical Teams (EMTs) was conducted for EMT members in 2 different modes: i) online trainings were delivered by ASB EMT type 1 – First Assistance Samaritan Team Germany – FAST; ii) offline part of ToT was conducted by the contracted organization – Training In Aid. The trainings took place from May 29 till June 3, 2022, in Batumi, Georgia. The specific ToT modules were created by FAST and Training In Aid trainers and several coordination meetings were held to exchange the information on online and offline sessions of the program to ensure effective coordination on the relevant issues. The online sessions covered theory and practical examples on general introduction on EMT Initiative, FAST concept of primary health care in emergency settings, data collection and reporting, Austere environments, Psychological health (team and individual), infection prevention and control, whilst 5 days’ offline program prepared a pool of EMT trainers with high-level facilitation skills and confidence to lead and mentor other trainers in delivering future EMT courses as part of their organizational learning strategy.

The offline program was organized as a direct follow-up, and complement to, a series of online exchange sessions presented by FAST personnel. While the online sessions focused on familiarization with content in several technical areas relevant to EMT operations, the face to face ToT component was designed to help prepare future trainers within Georgia and Armenia EMTs to plan, manage and implement their own training courses. Comprehensive handouts/supporting materials were developed by FAST and Training In Aid and distributed to the participants.

Building on the group’s prior experiences of delivering training, it developed individual facilitation styles and understanding of adult learning, providing a safe environment for ToT participants to challenge and formalise their existing skills. Practice with actual training materials from recognised EMT training packages increased familiarization with both content and methodologies.

Moreover, the ToT course also provided an opportunity for fellow training personnel to cultivate and deepen professional relationships with each other, thereby forming an important bridge to working effectively as a cohesive team on future projects.
